Located in the sunny Mission District of San Francisco, CA, we offer a monthly aphasia group that meets on Saturday mornings from 10:00 to 11:30.  This is a speech-language therapy group for adults who have acquired aphasia.

Here are some upcoming dates:

  • Saturday February 25
  • Saturday March 25
  • Saturday April 22

Our group meets as the ActivSpace building, 3150 18th Street, Suite 264, San Francisco, California  94110.  Our site is completely accessible.

Group members share updates at each meeting.  We then participate in our “50 Word Challenge” activity, during which the group generates at least 50 words belonging to a specific category.   Examples of recent categories:  things that are blue (or have the word “blue” in them), street signs, world capital cities, things that are round…).

We also have discussions about hot topics selected by one of our speech-language pathology students.  There is always plenty to talk about. Not even aphasia can stop our ideas and feelings from being expressed.  This is a safe place to communicate.

In addition, we try to provide a “tech update” at every meeting.  Our  students are  immensely helpful in teaching us about new apps or websites that may be useful for individuals with aphasia.

A light snack is served.

Dogs are welcome and our therapy dogs, Taco and Patches, often join us.

The group charge is $20.00  We do not take cash but will bill your insurance, including Medicare.  For this reason, we require a prescription from you doctor that says.: “92508  Speech Group.  Diagnosis:  Aphasia”.   It is helpful for your doctor to code your prescription with the specific ICD-CM Diagnosis Code for your type of aphasia.

There is no charge for your first visit.

The group leader is Maureen McKeown, MA CCC-SLP, ASHA Certified, California Licensed Speech-Language Pathologist.

We are fortunate to have students in speech-language pathology from San Francisco State University volunteering at our group.
