The National Aphasia Association focuses on American resources and speech therapists. But there are aphasia organizations in other countries around the world. We’re often asked about similar organizations abroad. Here are some resources we’ve collected.

Global

  • Aphasia United: “Aphasia United is a world-leading international organisation that is driving change by uniting the global aphasia community. We are doing this through partnerships with national and international researchers, clinicians and consumers with a shared vision.”

Canada

  • The Aphasia Institute: “The Aphasia Institute is a Canadian community-based centre of excellence, pioneering programs and practices that help people with aphasia learn how to communicate in new ways, and begin to navigate their own lives again. Through direct service, research, education and training, the Aphasia Institute has built a reputation as a world leader and educator in aphasia.”
  • Nova Scotia Aphasia Association: “The Nova Scotia Aphasia Association is a nonprofit organization that promotes public education, rehabilitation, and support services to assist people with aphasia and their families.”

United Kingdom

  • The Tavistock Trust for Aphasia: “The Tavistock Trust for Aphasia, the only grant making trust in the United Kingdom to focus solely on aphasia. The trust aims to help improve the quality of life for those with aphasia, their families and carers. We do this, amongst other things, by funding pioneering research and projects that will improve services and therapies; by acting as a catalyst in pulling together charities working in the same area; in raising the profile of the condition amongst the public, students of speech and language therapy and the medical profession, so that people can understand aphasia better.”
  • Aphasia Alliance: “The Aphasia Alliance is a coalition of key organisations from all over the UK that work in the field of aphasia.”

Australia

  • Australian Aphasia Association: “The Australian Aphasia Association is a support and advocacy association for people with aphasia, their families and the professionals who help them. The AAA was established in 2002 and is a non-profit organisation. Members of the AAA come from all states and territories across Australia.”

New Zealand

  • Aphasia New Zealand Charitable Trust: “The Aphasia New Zealand (AphasiaNZ) Charitable Trust is a national organisation and registered charity, providing support services, resources, education, information and advocacy for anyone in New Zealander living with aphasia.”
