WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?

B-I-N-G-O

B-I-N-G-O

If you did One Aphasia Action last year (and it’s not too late to do those activities now!), you know that we love bite-sized, actionable ideas you can do from home. We wanted to keep the progress going again through Aphasia Awareness Month.

Each week, we’re giving you a fun, visually-based activity designed by a speech-language pathologist that you can do from home.

Try out this week’s activity, and if you like it, share it with others by sending a link to this post while using our #PictureAphasia hashtag.

B-I-N-G-O

There was a person who played a game, and B-I-N-G-O was their name-oh! This speech game is best played with multiple people.

B-I-N-G-O involves comprehending what is called, scanning your card, selecting the correct square, and repeating what is in the square. You should try this game as the caller AND as the player.

But leave the beaten path and make a B-I-N-G-O card at home, adapting it to your needs.

For example, the Road Trip card is played with single words. You can use the single word option, or you can edit it to challenge yourself, saying a synonym or a descriptive term or using the word in a sentence.

Or try the number card. Many people with aphasia have difficulty with numbers, so this is a great one to try. Say the number, say the next number in a counting sequence, or add 10 to the number each time.

While you need a few people to play B-I-N-G-O, still try this on your own, too. Make a self-challenge using some of the ideas above, or create a B-I-N-G-O board for a friend.
